![]() Back in April I wrote an article focusing on the Canaries' final 5 fixtures of the season. I tried to use my self confessed knowledgeable football brain to predict the likely outcome of these 5 matches. How did I get on? Let's take a look..... Norwich came through a tricky looking trip to Bolton Wanderers (11/4/15) with a late, late winner by substitute Gary Hooper securing a vital win as I had suggested. A few days later (14/4/15) I predicted a 1-0 victory at Leeds for City. Happily I was right about the Canaries winning at Elland Road for the first time since 1995 but it was a little easier than expected with goals by Johnny Howson and Graham Dorrans helping Norwich grab a comfortable 2-0 win. It would have been more if Dorrans hadn't missed a penalty. Let Wes take them in future! After 2 away wins in 4 days our tails were up when Middlesbrough came to Carrow Road the following Friday (17/4/15) in front of the Sky TV cameras. I predicted a comfortable win for City but after Alex Tettey's unfortunate own goal had put Boro into an early lead we couldn't claw ourselves back into the match, mainly due to Boro's blatant time wasting tactics and gamesmanship. Our automatic promotion hopes were suddenly in tatters. It looked like it was the dreaded play-offs for us now! Norwich travelled to Rotherham (25/4/15) knowing that anything less than a victory would not do! Lewis Grabban didn't really help our plight when he got sent off in the 25th minute and despite a wonder goal by Gary Hooper (with another excellent cameo as a substitute) we had to settle for a point. My prediction of a win was not accurate I'm afraid and automatic promotion was officially out of reach. I forecast a win against our bogey team Fulham on the final day of the season (2/5/15) and thankfully we finally managed to beat the Cottagers after 29 years of trying. It was a terrific game and player of the season Bradley Johnson scored a hat-trick in City's 4-2 win, although one of the goals was for Fulham! I predicted maximum points from City's final 5 matches. We managed 10 points out of 15 which ultimately cost us automatic promotion. However in hindsight would any Norwich fan have preferred to have gone up automatically instead of what was still to come? I very much doubt it! ![]() | ||||
